a new soul

For the millionth time, Violet was frowning at me as I worked at my lab table. "You shouldn't work yourself so hard for my sake, Drover. You won't be able to enjoy life if all you do is go to school and work on potions."
"I'll enjoy my life when you can be in it fully." I huffed.
Her frown deepened and before I knew it I was smacked upside the head. Lucky for me her plush hands can't cause too much damage. "I heard your Mom and Mariner on the phone. His kids miss you. He misses you. Don't you see that your family is more important than someone who's not even real?"
I turned on her then, nearly knocking over the chemicals in my rage. "Dammit Violet! Can't you see that you are important? You're all I care about! Once I turn you real then I can be more involved with them! But you come first! You'll always come first, even before me!" My temper died down then and I slumped over the lab table. "Just..Just be real already."

Every morning I wake up and grudgingly start my morning routine, fighting the urge to just blow everything off and work at my lab station. And every morning I ignore the stares of concern from my family and shuffle my way to the line at the bathroom. Five people (and a baby) and one bathroom, mornings aren't fun and to make it even worse this lovely Monday morning Mom decided to voice her concerns.
"Drover, sweetie, I know you believe you can make your imaginary friend real, but," Ugh I hate how she says 'imaginary friend' like I'm five. "You're beginning to worry me. She's just a doll, honey-"
I lashed out at her then. "She's not just a doll! Why can't you just have some faith that I know what I'm doing?!"
Needless to say she was shocked at my outburst. Not once in all my life of being a misanthrope have I lashed out and yelled at my parents.
My head has always been swarmed with wonderland-esque imaginings but I could tell what was just my imagination and what was real.
"I'm not a psychotic fool, Mother! You used to be fine with me but now you're acting as if I'm some insane weirdo!"
Mom looked on the brink of tears, part of me felt awful for that but the other part was still very angry. "Baby boy I'm just concerned about you. You're tense lately and you've lost so much weight...." She trailed off, tears finally spilling over.
Not able to bear the sight of having caused my mother to cry I quickly turned on my heel and marched into the bathroom to drudge through my morning routine.

Vi made her disappointment in me very clear that morning and for once I was glad that she couldn't leave the house. School of course was spent with me wallowing in self hate and wondering if Mom was actually right, was I just schizophrenic or some ting of the sort? No, I shook these thoughts from my head, No, I know she's real, she is real. But... I'm trying to make her real, so at the moment she isn't...? Gah! I am going insane!
After a school day filled with trying to force my thoughts to be coherent ,much less make sense, I came home to this lovely gem. "Drover! We're going pay a visit to Mariner, so don't take your shoes off!" Mom called from the kitchen in a creepily cheery voice. I knew she was just getting me out of the house and away from my lab.

When I tried to pry it out of Mom that she was using this as a plot to get me away from my lab she cooly replied, "Don't be silly, sugar, we just want to visit the kids, we haven't seen them since their birthday, and the little ones have grown so much!" I quirked my brow at her, looking at her in the mirror... well some of her Dad's head blocked a bit. "Then why aren't Downy, Wisteria and Gold coming?"
"Downy needs to work on her grades, Wisteria's at a job interview, and Gold is down for a nap." Dad said, though I could see a hint of a mischeavious smile.
"Whatever." I huffed sliding down further in the seat.

We arrived at Mariner's house and were ushered in by a worn out but still some how cheery Paprika. Mare and Pappy had had another set of twins (the woman ovulates too much) and they had entered the terrible two's.
Well, mainly Sunrise who enjoyed hitting her twin brother and pulling people's pants down.
Horizon was a Mommy's boy and only really threw fits when Pappy wasn't around ... and when I try to hold him.

Mariner came down the stairs a bit ruffled, explaining that Padua was having a hissy fit again. Dad and him greeted eachother with their goofy handshake. "Why am I related to you nuts?" I mumbled.

Mare smacked his arm around my shoulders and pulled me away from the others. "You're just that lucky, bro." I rolled my eyes at him, a faint smile touching my lips.
His face became serious then. "Drover, Mom told me what's been going on. She said you have a friend you want to make real." This is why I like Mare, he didn't act like I was crazy, he had seen much weirder things on the job.
I nodded, wondering in which direction he was going.
He smiled at me then. "I think I might be able to help." My eyes lit up and my mouth nearly dropped to the floor. "Are you serious?" I gaped. He winked and pulled something out of his pocket before grabbing my hand and placing it in my palm, making me curl my fingers around it. I was about to say something when he put a fingure to his lips before looking around to see if  anyone was paying attention.
Mom was goofing around with Aero, Dad and Paprika were trying to coax Sunny into playing blocks.
Coast was clear.
Mariner came closer to me and spoke quietly. "The science facility has been looking into imaginary friends and making them real. I've found the base component of  the formula, that rock. Its pure rainbownium, when exposed to intense heat it turns in to a liquid. I can't tell you the rest of what we found, so its up to you to discover it." He patted my shoulder with a smile as I looked at him wide-eyed. "Thank you, Mariner."
Knowing I would want to take a crack at it immediately, he made up an excuse for us to leave, something about Aero's colon.
I hid the rock in my pocket and couldn't help the wide smile that grew on my face as we drove home. Mom and Dad, of course, thought their plan had worked. It kinda did.

Slight Delay

I won't be able to get an update out that soon since I have over the summer art homework to do that needs to be complete upon school starting, since there are three I need to do and I haven't finished the first one yet I've been focusing on them. I have also started making a Berry Sweet world which is time consuming. Since all of my creativity has been going to the ar projects I haven't had the creative gumption to write lately. However I'm almost done my first piece and I have my second piece almost completely planned out so hopefully I can get an update up soon. Meanwhile have some pics! <3

a whole new world

I've always had a very active imagination as a child. So much so that Mom often worried about me. At one point when I was 6 she took me to see a child behavioral therapist. We didn't go to see them very long though, Mom got offended and stopped taking me when the lady questioned Mom and Dad's ability to parent.
After that Mom just accepted my imagination more or less. She always worried about my relationship with Violet Umber, but she just let me be me for a long while.
When Mom found out she was pregnant she talked to me about it.
"Honey, are you sure you're alright with it?" She was really concerned. "Yeah, Momma, 'course I'm alright with it."
She fidgeted a bit and looked away. "Your Mom's just worried because you've been the youngest for awhile, until now." Dad explained
I smiled at Dad. "But now I get to be a big brother! It's gonna be fun." Dad smiled proudly at me and messed up my hair.

It was really interesting to see Mom pregnant. Of course this is when I had just been informed of the 'Berries and the Bees' so I made a habit of watching Mom's stomach and poking at it.
I had also noticed a change in Mom. She had become obsessed with cleaning while she was pregnant.
The maid didn't like it though, since Mom would get in her way and critique her cleaning. It was so funny to watch though.

After the first few months it felt like she was pregnant forever! Genny said that was because I was so excited to meet the new baby.
"Wisty why does a baby have to be in there for 9 months? Can't it come out sooner?" I whined to Wisteria one day.
"Well, it needs to develop fully. If it comes out now it'll probably look like some weird mutant chicken." She gave a shrug and went back to texting London. My eyes went wide as her words sunk in. Then I ran to Mom in the kitchen and put my arms around her stomach, my cheek smooshed against her belly so the baby could hear me. "Don't come out yet baby! I'll wait! Just don't be a mutant chicken!" Mom was surprised by my out burst but quickly eyed Wisteria in the living room who blushed and gave a guilty smile.

I was 11 when the baby was born. The doctors had mom come in and delivered the baby by C-section (which I later learned what that meant and wasn't very happy about it). Mom had a baby boy, they named him Gold Mist Pinot Noir.
Gold got my old crib and had to stay in Mom and Dad's room since the crib couldn't fit in our room. It was really funny to see Dad talking to little Gold.

I made sure to tell Violet all about Gold and she really wanted to hold him.
"Why can't you hold him,Vi?" I was really confused, if I could hold him so could she, right?
"No one else can see me , remember?"
"But you can still hold him!" She shook her round head 'no' then stuck her plush arm through my desk, neither her arm nor the desk had been affected by the interaction. My eyes went wide.
"B-b-ut you're real right?" I sputtered, starting to question my own sanity then.
She gave the best of a smile she could. "No... not yet anyway."
"N-n-not yet? Then w-when will you be real?" She shrugged then thought carefully about her response.
"All I know is that there is a potion that'll make me real... I don't know what goes in it though."
A frown sunk the corners of my mouth then, tears clouding my eyes. No. I won't be crying. Not when there are problems to be solved. I wiped the tears away and vowed then and there that I would make her real.

From that day on I worked my hardest to crack the formula to make Violet real.Mom got after me a few times for neglecting Scouts and the mushroom that grew on me(AKA Gold). Eventually Scouts were over and  I was able to dedicate myself more to discovering the formula.
No matter what, I will make her real.

the untold love story pt 2

The day finally came where my precious little purple princess was born. We named her Wisteria Orchid. I was so happy to have Ana there, it felt like she had actually accepted me as her friend. Of course she had told me that we were friends, but when you get pregnant by a woman's husband and she tells you you're her friend you are gonna be a bit wary.
Cello loved her to bits the minute he saw her. It made me so happy that my future husband loves her so much.
Why yes, diary you heard right. Cello proposed!

We had also decided that instead of a wedding we would buy a house then go sign some papers down at City Hall.

Oh I just love our new house! It's the perfect size for a growing family.
Yes, diary, a GROWING family.
We decided that since Wisty was a little over a year old that we would try for one of our own. And we got pregnant sooner than we expected!
And our beautiful Downy Pear was born.

Downy stopped reading and I looked at her, perplexed. "Why did you stop?" She looked at me, her eyes about to tear over. "That's as far as it goes."
"Oh." My head drooped dejectedly and I stared at my lap for a long while.

Then I began thinking of Dad and Mom, well Merlot and Ana. They raised us and treated us like their own, well I am Dad's kid but y'know. Mom, Ana, treated me and Downy no different than her actual kids.

They helped us with our homework, and made special meals on our birthdays, just like they did with their own flesh and blood kids. This didn't change, ever. Not even when Mom found out she was pregnant again at 47.
They were a little apprehensive about telling all of us, after all the kid has a niece and nephew older then'm!
"That's great, Mom! But you just gave me a very bad visual." I said, making a face. "Oh great you just ruined it, Wisty." Downy cringed.
Drover just looked at us confused. "I don't get it."
Mom and Dad laughed.
It made me happy to see them so jovial and to see Mom glowing again.

next update we'll meet the new little member of the family!

the untold love story pt 1

A few weeks ago Daddy and Mom gave us an envelope and a worn diary. "I think you two are old enough to read these now." Daddy looked on the verge of tears, something I had never seen until that moment.
"They're from your parents, they were left to you after they died." Mom clarified. She gave both Downy and I a kiss on the forehead before they both left the living room.
I'm 15 and Downy, 14. Were we actually old enough to handle reading these? Letters and a diary from our dead parents? Parents Downy had almost no memory of and memories I myself had almost forgotten.
We decided to read the letters in the envelope first, Downy reading over my shoulder as I held them for us both to see.
The first was from our mother. We looked at each other hesitantly before finally settling our eyes on the paper to read,
Tears silently, other then then occasional sniffle, rolled down our cheeks. We didn't bother wiping them away before we read Dad's, there would only be more tears.
For a long while we sat, holding each other and crying. After what felt like hours of crying by ourselves Drover came in. He said nothing, merely kicked off his boots and curled up with us.

~
It wasn't until the next day that we were able to read Mom's diary. Most of it was from the time I was born.
Downy and I sat together again in the living room and she read aloud from it, her voice a bit shaky.

Today is the absolute worst day of my life! I slept with a married man! and what's worse? he has KIDS. Berry almighty I feel awful. what kind of person am I?
We let our desires get control of us and BOOM BAM in a hotel room with our clothes off!!!!
"The next bit is more ranting..." Downy explained as she skipped to the next entry.

Found out I'm pregnant today. I had always pictured pregnancy as a joyous time.
Not a time of complete and utter self-loathing. An affair baby. can that scream tart or what?
Downy paused and looked at me, not sure if she should continue or not. I nudged my head towards the book, silently telling her to continue.

Cello has been so great this whole time. He's the best friend I could ask for. He'll do the dishes, the laundry, everything. I told him since he's being such a huge and outstanding help that he doesn't need to pay rent but he insists.
He was the most help when I was going through my hormonal phases.
"I'm an awful person!" I would cry and he would just hold me and tell me how wonderful I was. and I actually believed him too. That was the magic he could work.
he made sure I knew the baby was a spectacular little thing too. I complained about it being all the baby's fault for a while. Cello put a stop to that though.

"Babies are little miracles, Car. So much can go wrong in there, but the baby fights it. Remember that OK? Babies are little fighters and so are you."

Today when I woke up... something started to dawn on me. I ... think I'm falling in love with Cello. My best friend! oh mother of berry what will I do?
No no just calm down self. I don't really need to do anything about it right? It may just be a little crush... right?

Downy let out a little laugh. "What?" I asked. "Mom was a pretty inconsistent with her entries." She said before continuing to the next entry.

Yesterday was THE BEST!
we were watching Splash (Cello loves his soaps) and I was starting to dose off on his shoulder when all of a sudden I felt him kiss me!
it was amazing! neither of us said anything, we just kissed and kissed. My head felt like it was floating!
eventually things got pretty heavy and we went back to my room.
what? preggos can have fun too?
Downy and I laughed together at our mother's words before she read more.

decided to split this into two parts, next part soon!

temptations

This mini-chapter is from Universe's POV and tells his initial reaction to Genoa.

One good deed in over one hundred years and I pay the price.
Wanna volunteer for some blood test? Free pint of virgin blood for each volunteer!
Oh yeah sure, I'll do it!
Great now just go to the 3rd room on the left and wait over an hour for the doctor to come in!
Pft, wasn't even virgin blood.
What the berry is taking that stupid doctor so long?
Ok so she wasn't really a doctor just some nurse/scientist/whatever. Just come in here and take my blood so I can leave!
"Miss Pinot Noir will be in shortly." Shortly to scientists is an hour?

I heard through the door that they needed to sedate some vampire that had gone off his berry and now things were behind. Boohoo. Maybe you should have been prepared for that.
Finally she came in.
Berry almighty she's beautiful... Even more than.. no. She looked at me and her heartbeat increased, going twice as fast.
For some reason that made me happy. Not the normal "Haha their scared" or "Yeah you know I'm hot" way, but more like"God she's as shaken up about me as I am about her".
Wait... why am I thinking like that?!
To cover myself I just put up the facade that I was the normal me and not rattled to no end by the violet beauty beside me.
It was kind of fun to see her riled up, but still the whole time all that was on my mind was..
Don't watch her blood flow! Don't stare at her boobs! Blink!

My structure was slipping and in the brief moments when we had no communication, fantasies would spurr through my head.
I would follow her. wait until after she was done work. Catch her in the parking lot and capture her in my arms.

Drink her blood. Judging by her scent it would probably be like drinking a delicious wine. Then when she would try to run, I would catch her again and smooch that pretty purple face off.
I cleared my head of the fantasy. No. I wouldn't be doing that.

"Is that an invitation, Doc?" I stood to leave and looked over her completely.
"It wasn't an invitation, but free will is free will."  Such a little liar.
